I can accept that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and often times I even stress this fact, but naive, idiotic, and slightly (or not so slightly) desperate remarks that are being uttered by some of my fellow Americans (well maybe I shouldn't say fellow, since they are so obviously MORE American than I could ever be) are making me question my previous beliefs.
Universal Health Care:
The suggestion of universal health care had the effect that cat nip does on our furry feline friends; everyone goes crazy and gets so wrapped up in their craziness that they can't focus on anything else. "Death panels! They are going to kill your dear old grandma just because she is old! They are trying to steal our freedoms... blah, blah, blah more alarmist crap that has absolutely no evidence to back it up!!" Really people? Come on. I thought we all had a little more sense than that. Or, at least, I thought we all had a little less crazy-ass in us, but apparently, I was completely wrong. First, to address the death panels claim... oh wait, I shouldn't even waste my breath because the death panel claim HAS been addressed, not once, but multiple times, yet those who are screaming about it won't listen. Just to clarify, calm down, no one is going to kill your grandma because she is old... after all, we all will be at some point, so that doesn't make any sense anyway.
Next! Oh, freedoms, here you are again. Why is it that you show up every time any change is attempted to be made? Don't people realize that sometimes change is a good thing? I guess not. All I can say about this is, as a person that doesn't have health insurance and sure as hell could use it, I don't mind making a little competition for the insurance agencies (who have been ripping you off for years!) in order to help me and the millions of other people in this country who are way worse off than I am. This could be good.. just take a break from drawing the Hitler mustache on your Obama picture.. that's right, put the marker down. Good. Now, turn off Fox News.. okay good. Put down the gun and pick up a newspaper! Seriously, lets try not to freak out and instead see if this option could be good and if changes need to be made to it, lets make them, but lets not get crazy about it!
President Obama Makes a Speech Encouraging Hard Work in School:
Just writing the title to this section reminds me of how ludicrous this issue (or really, this non-issue) is. You are pulling your kids out of school tomorrow so that your kids won't hear a speech from the President of the United States in which he tells them to work hard in school? Here's my question: What I keep hearing, besides that you don't want The President to push his "socialist" agenda on your children, which don't worry, we'll get to later, is that you don't want your kids to have to stop learning for the minutes that President Obama is speaking. So instead, you take your kids out of school for the entire school day? I simply wonder how this makes any sense because... well, it makes absolutely no sense. At least think of another reason to claim because that one just doesn't add up.
Now, to those of you who say that The President is using this time to force your children to support his universal health care option, well, what can I say to you? You do realize that there are more than just kids at school, right? There are teachers and administrators that would also see this speech and that's added on top of the fact that you can watch the speech in real time with your kids from your own home or office.. oh and The White House posted it on their website today. So, it's not going to be some secret attempt to take over your kids minds, okay? He's not going to hypnotize all your children.. and even if he did, when did it become legal for your kids to vote in congress? Even if every single child in America was enchanted by President Obama in his evil speech, it would make absoultely no difference in actual policy decisions. So, once again, calm down. It'll be okay.
Also, if you are so worried about your child's opinion changing because you aren't there telling them how to think and what to believe, then your kids are already screwed up because you won't allow them to have their own thoughts and opinons.
So basically America, let's all just take a second, breathe, and not go compeltely insane, if you can help it.
