Why I Always Blog About American Politics

Because they are seriously screwed up!

I am appalled by the actions of the Republicans in The Senate. They filibustered the bill to provide 9/11 First Responders health care to help them with diseases and injuries they sustained due to the attacks because they said they won't pass any bill until the Bush tax cuts are extended. Here's why that is wrong:

- The Bush tax cuts that they want to pass are not the ones for middle and lower class, but instead they want the cuts on the top earners (top 2% to be more clear) to be extended. If the tax cuts are not extended for these top earners, they would only have to pay 3% more taxes.

- While I understand their tactic, they refuse to see that this bill could actually affect lives and by waiting in order to get some type of political gain, they could be costing people their lives.

- If I made a million dollars a year, I would not mind paying more taxes.

- Most people that earn that much money in America do so by being a part of huge companies, which already receive enough breaks and leeway.

Is that all... I feel like I am forgetting something...

Oh, right- IT IS HEARTLESS!

What are these people, robots? Give them money and they'll give you what you want/need? They sound more like vending machines than politicians to me.

Also, while I am referring to Republicans right now, there are screwed up politicians all over the place, regardless of party, but this is horrible.

An End, A Start

As the end of the year approaches, I've started to look back at everything that happened in 2010 (I know, real originial, right?). This past year has been a tough one- I lost two people that I loved dearly, had a somewhat scary medical issue and surgery, changed living situations, took on more responisiblity at work, applied to Graduate School, and went through a major shift in an important relationship. Wow, when I lay it all out like that, it seems like a lot.

Moving forward, though, I am excited about new opportunities. Sometimes I think we all need a kick in the butt to realize that life won't slow down, so you can't wait forever to do the things you want to. Well, although I'm not exactly sure where the kick in the butt came from, I got one and I'm not going to dream small because those dreams seem more reasonable; I am going to work hard, have fun, and remember that I shouldn't live a life that holds me back, I should have one that pulls me forward with its grand opportunities. Here's to a new way of thinking.
