Random Tuesday Thoughts- Entry #2!
I don't know that I have a lot of random thoughts today, but here are some.
1) I am really tired of feeling tired and not being able to sleep. I just want to sleep! I also just want two days in a row where I don't have anything I HAVE to do or anywhere I HAVE to go... actually, just one would be okay!
2) I realized today that my attempts to be responsible and reach my goals have been foiled by... my attempts to be responsible and reach my goals.
Example:
I need to make money and try to spend less (in any way possible) in order to not stress out about finances. In order to make this money, I have to go to work, but in order to go to work, I have to drive a lot. I've also been getting more responsibilities at work, which is great, but requires me to drive even more. Therefore, I am spending way more gas money. This spending makes me stress about fiances and it goes on and on that way.
It's a bit frustrating, and it's happening in pretty much all aspects right now. I'll have to work on deciding which goal will take priority in order to stop the cycle.
3) Cancer sucks.

Oh Youth, How Interesting You Were...
After looking up an old aquaintance Facebook (to no avail I might add because I have absolutely no patience and didn't want to go through ten pages of people to find him) I started to realize that as I was looking for his picture, I was really hoping that he would look well put-together and happy. I guess I was really wanting to see that people do change and become someone really great, even if they weren't heading in that direction in their teen years. Now, don't get me wrong, I realize that people can change and are constantly growing and so on, but I have a feeling this isn't one of those people. I guess it wasn't only my lack of patience that kept me from continuing in the Facebook search for him, but also the fact that I was worried that his profile picture was going to be him looking all drunk and proud holding a beer in his hand while peeing on some public building. Why is it that I do this? Why do I care, first of all, but why do I so desperately hope that people will pull themselves together and reach their full potential?
Does it make me an elitist to think that I know what people should end up being? I don't actually feel that way, but I do think that this person could have a great and meaningful life, but is probably choosing not to and I just wish, for his sake, that he would choose differently. Why do I even care, though? I haven't seen him in years and probably won't ever see him again... and we weren't even that close.
This experience also got me thinking that the teen years can really screw a person up. Everyone always talks about how the teenage years are so difficult and how teens make poor decisions because of this, but then those years are the ones that are really important in terms of what path a person will go on in life. That is when you have to start preparing to become an adult and start to choose what you are going to do. Not that we don't continue to live and thrive for decades after that, but when you are in your upper-teens, you really can either help your future self out or really screw your future self up. What pressure. Man am I glad I am no longer a teenager.

Random Tuesday Thoughts- Entry #1!

So, my wonderous friend Kaylen has been posting Random Tuesday Thoughts for awhile now and I always love them, so I thought, what the hell, I'll give it a whirl. Here goes nothing...
I love college. I love all the freedom and the feeling that I am choosing to learn instead of being forced to be there. I love how unique everyone around me is and how I feel like I'm on my way to becoming a true, honest-to-goodness grown up. What I DON'T like about college, and what has been shoved in my face twice in the passed week, is that people that work the hardest and do what they are supposed to the most, don't always get the better grades. There have been two instances this week where someone who doesn't do nearly as much of the homework as me, comes to way less classes, or all in all doesn't try nearly as much (nonetheless always asked me to help them to understand and get caught up with things) have gotten better grades than me. What?! What could possibly cause this to happen? I'm not sure, but it's getting extremely frustrating.
I talk to myself sometimes. Not in the creepy way, but just in a "Hey you, just reassuring or reminding you" way. I've done it numerous times since I got home today and I think it either means I'm slightly insane, or that I am just an extremely interesting and engaging conversationalist. I'll take option number 2, thank you!
I got to witness a thousand teenagers at an assembly today and it made me think that I must have been an abnormal teen. When I used to sit at assemblies, I always thought about the feelings of the person talking and made sure that I clapped a lot when they were done talking or tried to pay attention and not talk while they were giving a serious address. Today what I saw seemed to indicate that proper teenager etiquette is to just ignore all human emotions and possible caring and respect for others and just do whatever the hell you feel like will make you look the coolest. Am I really doing a "those darn kids" blog entry here? Wow, I have gotten old.

SCRAP!
So, my awesome friend Kaylen and I went to SCRAP today! It is this terrific place where they have all of these donated goods (craft supplies, Christmas decorations, material, frames, carpet squares, bottle caps, crayons, markers, fishing line, etc.) and it was amazing! I got a few Christmas decorations (including a wreath, which normally cost way too much if you ask me) two rolls of quite a bit of fabric that I am planning on using to make some throw pillows, and some Christmas wrapping and bags, all for around $8.00 (well $6.00 because Kaylen rocks). How awesome is that? I will definitely be going back to SCRAP and telling everyone I know about it because it will always have different things in stock and you get them for cheap.
SCRAP is located on MLK Jr. Blvd. in North Portland (Oregon) if anyone is interested.
Thanks for the awesome shopping excursion, Kaylen!
